چکیده

In this paper we give a description of the subsystem construct in the Uniied Modeling Language, emphasizing its dynamic aspects , thus giving a detailed description of the semantics of interaction with subsystems. Depending on whether the surroundings of the subsystem make use of public elements in the subsystem or not, the subsystem is considered to be open or closed, respectively. This leads to two diier-ent ways to use the services of the subsystem: either importing it and directly accessing its public elements, or associating it and only communicating with the subsystem itself. We also discuss some implications which closed subsystems have on collaborations.

NTH School for IT Ecosystems Behavioral Modeling of IT Ecosystems

IT ecosystems systems composed of a large number of distributed, autonomous, cooperating, decentralized, interacting, organically grown, heterogeneous, and continually evolving subsystems are the future system generation. Today’s state of the art does not enable us to develop these systems. Within the NTH Focused Research School for IT Ecosystems, research project AIM deals with methods and too...

Implementing a WLAN Video Terminal Using UML and Fully Automated Design Flow

This case study presents UML-based design and implementation of a wireless video terminal on a multiprocessor system-onchip (SoC). The terminal comprises video encoder and WLAN communications subsystems. In this paper, we present the UML models used in designing the functionality of the subsystems as well as the architecture of the terminal hardware. We use the Koski design flow and tools for f...

Thermodynamics within the Framework of Classical Mechanics

The approach to a substantiation of thermodynamics is offered. A conservative system of interacting elements, which is not in equilibrium, is used as a model. This system is then split into small subsystems that are accepted as being in equilibrium. Based on the D’Alambert equation for a subsystem the generalized Liouville equation is obtained. A necessary condition for irreversibility is deter...

Towards Architectural Modeling with UML Subsystems

This paper presents an extension of the UML 1.4 metamodel that facilitates the description of software architectures. To this end, concepts like views, ports, connectors, and protocols are introduced, and the UML’s subsystem concept is adapted. The approach is inspired by ROOM and IEEE P1471, using an explicit metamodeling approach for clarity. This paper should be seen as input for the discuss...
